Sound Insulation Testing
Sound insulation testing is a procedure to measure the level of sound provided by a separating element such as a floor or wall between dwellings. It essentially measures the effectiveness of the sound proofing treatments installed.

It has been a mandatory part of the Building Regulations for new build and conversions since Approved Document E was revised in 2003.

How to pass the Sound Insulation Test

Achieving the developments mandatory level of sound insulation requires a combination of multiple factors – our inhouse team can advise on all aspects:

Commissioning the sound insulation test is a balancing act between testing too early or slightly too late in the build process.

Testing is ideally carried out at the ‘pre-completion stage’. The following video shows ideal test conditions.

The Process

We need the basic details of your project together with the approximate test date and, if possible, the floor plans e.g. detached building, 4 flats over 4 floors in NW16, ready in 2 weeks

You will be allocated a dedicated account manager for the duration of the project.
We usually provide the quote that working day
Sound Testing Checklist - Dwellings helps you to ensure the site is ready for testing & that the testing conditions are compliant with the Building Regulations.
On the test day, the test engineer will provide an immediate result.
The test certificate/s are guaranteed to be provided the next working day, or on the day of testing if agreed in advance
Send the certificate/s to Building Control as part of the required Completion Documentation

What happens if the testing does not achieve required target?

If the required level has not been achieved, we have the knowledge and expertise to advise on what is required to resolve the issues.
